An Indoor Picnic in Your Living Room: The New Movie Night
Maybe it sounds a little bit silly when you have a perfectly good sturdy kitchen table and a comfy 2 seater sofa, but sometimes it’s fun to break away from routine and add a little variety to life! What could be a better idea to turn a rainy day around than by placing a quilt on your living room floor and a basket filled with delicious treats and the latest blockbuster? This can be a fun or romantic way to wash away the gray.
If you have young children, pick out a Disney movie and you’ve a great way to distract them and keep them calm during a thunderstorm. An added bonus of staying indoors is that it’s even easier than a picnic outside because if you forget to pack a condiment, the fridge is only a few feet away. It’s more fun, of course, to pretend it isn’t.
To set the mood for movie night, be sure to close the blinds, draw the curtains, and dim the lights. If you can see the TV, situate your “picnic spot” so that you can grab some pillows and lean against the foot of your couch; this will make a two hour or longer movie much less painful. Add some popcorn and candy to your picnic basket, and don’t worry about packing the bug spray!
The Perfect Set-Up: If a single blanket doesn’t sound appealing and you’re really committed to comfort, then by all means feel free to push your full or queen size mattress into your living room for optimal picnic luxury. Another option is to lay your mattress pad- if you have one- down in front of your TV. Just remember, whatever you decide, you eventually have to move it back! Cover whatever you chose as your base with at least two blankets: one to sit on, and one to snuggle under after you eat. Make sure to use a blanket that isn’t white or is easy to clean as your top layer since this is what you’ll be sitting on while you eat.
What to Pack: Its movie night so this picnic calls for all your favorite movie theater treats! Make popcorn or kettle corn, nachos, hotdogs, and all your other favorites. You can even pick up plastic popcorn containers from stores like Target or Walmart. The most important item to pack is the candy! Pack jumbo boxes of all your favorite varieties from Swedish Fish to DOTS, and Sour Patch Kids to Milk Duds! If you can’t see a movie in theaters without a slushie, be sure to stop by a 711 on the way home from work!
